A smoother drive, with you still in charge.

FrogPilot is free, open-source driver assistance for comma devices that adds dozens of features to openpilot. It’s experimental, a little froggy, and yours to shape however you like! Remember, stay attentive and always be ready to take over!

Everything openpilot does, and then some!

What’s openpilot?

openpilot is free, open-source driver assistance software made by comma. It runs on a comma device, which mounts on your windshield and connects to your car through a car harness. On 335+ supported cars it steers to keep you centered in your lane and, on many of them, manages your following distance and speed, while you stay alert and ready to take over.

And FrogPilot?

FrogPilot is a fork of comma’s openpilot that adds its own features and settings on top. It installs the same way and runs on the comma 3, comma 3X, and comma four. It’s highly experimental and unofficial, so always use it with care!

  1. The comma device runs openpilot, comma’s driving software, with FrogPilot’s features and settings on top.
  2. Its driver camera checks you’re paying attention, and its road cameras see lanes, cars, curves, and the road ahead.
  3. The car harness usually plugs in behind the rearview mirror and brings in your car’s data, like its speed, and radar on some cars.
  4. Your car steers and, on many cars, speeds up and brakes.

Try a few of FrogPilot’s features!

Everything below lives in your comma device’s Settings → FrogPilot menu. Take five of them for a spin: flip a setting and watch what the car does.

Always On Lateral

Steering that stays on when you tap the brake.

On stock openpilot, tapping the brake turns everything off, steering included. With this on, FrogPilot keeps steering the whole time cruise control is switched on.

Cruising. Steering and speed control are both on. Tap the brake.

Conditional Experimental Mode

Chill on the open road, Experimental when it counts.

It cruises in Chill Mode and hands over to Experimental Mode, where the driving model picks the speed, only while a trigger applies.

Open road, cruising in Chill Mode at your set speed. Send something down the road.

Curve Speed Controller

Slows for curves before you get there.

In Chill Mode, stock openpilot doesn’t slow for curves ahead. This sees them coming and slows down on its own, early and smoothly.

Open road at your set speed. Pick a curve and a profile, then send it.

Simulation

21 mph through the tight back-road bend. Adaptive: starts at Standard and learns how you take curves.

Human-Like Driving

Works the gas and brake like a careful driver.

Smooth on the brakes, quick off the line! Human-Like Following reads where the car ahead is headed so FrogPilot can ease off early and brake gently, and with Human-Like Acceleration it gets rolling right behind traffic. Both are on out of the box.

FrogPilot can start slowing early and ease gently into the stop.

Speed Limit Controller

Cruise at the speed limit, up to your set speed.

It follows the posted limit plus your offset, and your set speed is always the ceiling. Try raising it, reordering the sources, and changing the offsets!

No more fiddling with the set speed. It follows the limit, plus your offset.

Simulation

55 limit + 10 offset = 60 mph (capped at your set speed)

Tuning Level decides how many settings your device shows. How deep do you want to go? Pick a depth in the pond to open it: each one lists the menus that gain settings there, and a tap on a menu shows what each of them does.

With Custom Themes, download theme packs and mix and match their color schemes, icon packs, sound packs, steering wheel icons, and turn signal animations. Turn on Holiday Themes and FrogPilot dresses up on its own for thirteen holidays through the year.

The holidays: New Year’s Day, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, World Frog Day, April Fools’ Day, Easter, May the Fourth, Cinco de Mayo, Stitch Day, the Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Some themes can appear from the Monday of the holiday’s week through the holiday itself.

Three things, then one web address.

  1. A supported car. Check FrogPilot’s supported-car list. Its ACC column shows whether openpilot can control your gas and brake.
  2. A comma device. FrogPilot runs on the comma 3, comma 3X, and comma four.
  3. A car harness for your car, which connects the device to it. You can pick one when you buy a comma four.
  1. Connect the harness and mount the device with comma’s setup guide.

  2. When the device asks what software to install, choose Custom Software and enter:
